Message of Support From Nawal El Saadawi
To the Launch of Progressive Women`s Movement of South Africa
Pretoria 09 August 2006
Cairo 28 July 2006
I wish to express my full support to the Launch of Progressive Women`s
Movement of South Africa , and my disappointment at not being present with you
at this important event , the 50 th anniversary of the South African Women`s
historic 1956 March to Union Buildings in Pretoria and to march with you on 09
August the same march , in honour of the gallant heroic women who sacrificed
their lives for a better South Africa
As an African woman I wish to express my solidarity with the struggle of women
in South Africa and in all African countries for their rights and for equality ,
development and peace in their countries .
I am writing this message of support while hundreds of women and children are
killed daily in Lenanon , Palestine , and Iraq , by the American - Israeli
military machine ,
The Israel`s assault against Lebanon has now entered its third week .
The American administration describes the war crimes in Lebanon and Gaza as the
“ birth pangs “ of the New Middle East .
This New Middle East is to be dominated by Israel , to be transformed into a
series of military basis and the source of oil power to the American Empire .
But the New Middle East we ( Arab women ) are fighting for is a Middle East
marching for equality , development and peace .
Our struggle is one , and solidarity between us is essential to fight together
against war , neo - colonialism and all types of oppression
